O Lord, You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup;
You maintain my lot.
6 . . . Yes, I have a good inheritance.
The Psalmist. Psalm 16:5, 6. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 24 of 30 Days of Psalms. For the Psalmist, God was enough. One of my favorite Christian musicians captures the essence of this concept in a song, Give You Faith—where she reflects on the most valuable gift she could give to her kids. What is that? Faith and hope in a God who loves them. See, we can write up a long, complex will(certainly should have a will), but what we really give is so much more. Siblings can squabble over how to divide the cash, property or stocks—but in all that, they squabble over peanuts. Stuff that’s so temporary and could in fact be gone in the next moment. What we can give our kids—in fact what we ourselves can determine to hold onto—is God’s personal presence. God is, in fact, a lavish, complete inheritance—bringing everything else we need with him.
