Uphold my steps in Your paths,
That my footsteps may not slip.
The Psalmist. Psalm 17:5. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 26 of 30 Days of Psalms. “Uphold my steps”. This is the New Covenant in shepherd’s language. It is the secret to holy living. Our success in becoming the person whose life reflects the beauty of Divine love, is found in this single sentence: God upholds our ‘footsteps’. It isn’t the path we need help with—it’s not even the guiding, it’s the kind hand of God holding, steadying, enabling every-single-step. Without this moment by moment provident work of patient divine kindness—we slip into ruin. Holiness is never—will never—be achieved through sheer determination. Only as we trust our hearts to the upholding hand of God can we expect success in Christian living.
