Matthew 9:36–38 (NKJV): when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with
compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew, Jesus. Matthew 9:36–38
Hey, I’m Nathan, and this is Day 11 of 30 Days Watching Jesus. Have you ever
wondered how Jesus felt, toward people? Well, if it hasn’t been clear yet, here it is: ‘he was moved with compassion.’ As he looked out on the throng that pressed in around him wherever he went, there was a deep stirring in his heart. He was drawn to them. Moved by their needs; their heartache. Never was he gripped by disdain or dislike or indifference. Every need grabbed his heart—deeply. In this particular case, he did more than simply experience deep compassion for these throngs of people—he urged his followers to ask God that a great movement of men and women would be raised up, who would move into the lives of these person’s he loved so much, and bring life to them. He was unsatisfied with doing only what he or his disciples could do—more must join him in his mission. The mission-movement must expand. The need was great. It still is.
