The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.
Jesus. Mark 2:27
Hey, I’m Nathan, and this is Day 26 of 30 Days Watching Jesus. “The Sabbath was made for man.” There’s a lot more in these words than just a declaration of the Sabbath’s purpose: it reveals the heart of God. Reveals that God’s heart is always working to create for the blessing of others. Engineering opportunities and circumstances to bless and enrich. So, if we’re going to be like the One we’re watching, how is that we are constantly creating systems and structures for the uplifting of those around us—those with whom our lives intersect? How is that we can become re-oriented around the kingdom ideals that say, power is meant to be leveraged for blessing? When creating the planet, carving out a weekly gift of rest was within God’s power—so he did it. What is within your power? Can you carve out ways your employees can become more successful? Can live larger? Can you create a healthier relational climate in your family? Open up space for more rest, for larger grace? How about your churches—can you support your pastor better, or lift up the neglected forgotten ones more intentionally? What about your community—what power do you have to create blessing?
