Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all
your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will
overflow with new wine.
Solomon. Proverbs 3:9 & 10. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is day 25 of ANOTHER 30 Days of Wisdom. When our first impulse is to employ our resources to honor God—that is, doing the things that delight him—like serving those around us; meeting others needs; relieving the suffering; helping resolve crises; uplifting the discouraged—we increase our capacity to have and receive. Generosity is the path to fullness, not stinginess. What is held tightly, will eventually corrode, dissolve away. While what is giving liberally will multiply and return in overflowing plenty. Those rich returns certainly aren’t always material—but they are always certain. And often material plenty ALSO accompanies generosity. Again, it’s because the nature of reality is designed around systems of generosity. The stream, giving freely to the ocean—only makes certain its own replenishment, in rich showers of refreshing rain. When we, like a babbling brook, give our stuff to live out the goodness of God, we are blessed. Stuffed to overflowing—plenty beyond our wildest dreams. And now is only the beginning. The new world to come I imagine, will be a truly lavish place—in every conceivable dimension of the word.
