My son, let them not depart from your eyes— Keep sound wisdom
and discretion. . . . Then you will walk safely in your way, And your foot will not stumble. When you lie down, you will not be afraid; Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet.
Solomon. Proverbs 3:21, 23 & 24. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is a BONUS day in a ANOTHER 30 Days of Wisdom. When integrity guides a person, they don’t have to worry about tripping themselves up—constantly checking to make sure they aren’t double crossing themselves, or looking over their shoulders to see if their facade is about to be shredded. Wisdom and discretion enable us to plot a safe course even through thorny, complex circumstances, providing a compass through technical, confusing mountain terrain. A way to keep our heading in the turbulent seas of life. But there’s more. Not only can we maintain a good heading—we can also rest deeply. Why? Because we have lived in such a way that our sleeping hours are not haunted by regret. The story has been told of a young farm hand who could sleep through the severest storms. Why? Because he’d carefully made sure the barns were secure, the storage hatches closed, the windows latched. He didn’t toss and turn or fumble in the dark—because he’d taken care of things ahead of time. Such is still the secret of deep, sweet rest: live in such a way that there are no lingering messes to rattle loose under the winds of scrutiny or pop open under the brutal battering of social media.
