“Come aside by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while.” For there were many coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.
Jesus. Mark 6:31. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 23 of 30 Days in the Gospels. Come. Rest. That’s the invitation of Jesus to you. His disciples had been pushed and shoved and drained by ministry to the masses of humanity. Jesus answer: rest in a deserted place. An empty, wild space, free of the gawking crowds. Unfortunately, Jesus’ and his disciples weren’t successful in finding such a spot, yet Jesus’ words clearly affirm our need for quiet, restful escapes from the insanity of life. If you’ve been putting off a vacation, remind yourself that in fact, Jesus believes in vacations. Time away for rest and restoration. Time to renew both the body and the spirit. Time to recharge. We can only sustain the heated pace of life for so long before succumbing in some way to its incessant wear.
