11Give us this day our daily bread.
Jesus. Matthew 6:11. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 14 of 30 Days of Prayer. “Daily bread”. There’s something paradigm-shifting about thinking about who God is, seeking the advancement of his kingdom—and THEN talking to God about out own needs. Somehow, this order, while certainly not a prayer mandate, does something to place our own needs in clear perspective. When I pray for the widow or orphan and then talk to God about the stuff I need for everyday life, I stark to think about what I actually need vs what I just want—while also remember that what I need, and even what I want, are of personal importance to God. He does, actually, want to know the needs on my heart. From the groceries I’ll need for the day or the week, to the auto repairs and the dental appointment. And there’s more, when I talk to God about my daily needs, I’m reminded that my survival is not a result of my diligent labor, but of his provident care—and my mind can once again rest. I am cared for. Personally, adoringly cared for by God.
