The ungodly are not so,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
The Psalmist, Psalm 1:4, 5. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 3 of 30 Days of Psalms. I lived in Kansas for several years. I remember well the swirling cloud of dust rising behind the large harvesters moving through fields of ripe wheat. Light and with no value for human consumption, the chaff is mechanically separated from the nutritious kernel of wheat and blown back onto the field. Such is true of the ungodly—those disconnected from the source of life. Since the energizing power of God is not coursing through their veins, they have no staying power. It’s tragic, really. Without the life-giving presence of God, we humans have no stabilizing uplifting power in our lives. Instead we’re blown around by the shifting winds of social morality, taking up one fight and abandoning another, all as the social climate dictates. In doing so, we become washed out, hollow souls—failing to become the beautiful people God longs to make us.
