When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4 What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?
The Psalmist. Psalm 8:3, 4. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 15 of 30 Days of Psalms. What is man? A probing question indeed. From our spot in the galaxy, a brilliant beam of light, uninterrupted, would probably not reach the edge of our galaxy for nearly 2,000 generations, or nearly 50,000 lightspeed-years—which is covering nearly 200,000 miles every second of every day for an entire year, and then repeating this feat for nearly 50,000 cycles. We humans are profoundly insignificant—even in our own galactic cul-de-sac. Yet, God takes personal notice of each of us. He is knowledgeable of every detail of our person and personally committed to our individual and collective well-being, wisely, skillfully operating in the bounds of love—with all its freedom, pain and risk—to bring about final, glorious restoration. In pursuit of this restoration, he goes so far as to visit us—to hang out with us. Even to become our blood-brother, personally absorbing the cost of our rebellion. All from the depths of his great heart.
