But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah, quoting God. Isaiah 43:1–2. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 12 of 30 Days of Pushing Back Fear. “When you pass through . . . I will be with you.” Honestly, Id’ve preferred: ‘Don’t worry. You’ll never know trouble. It won’t come anywhere near you. The road I’ll take you down will be the wide, fast-track bypass—skirting all the pain and hurt that most folks deal with.’
Actually, it’s quite the opposite: we discover that passing through is unavoidable. So, the power of this promise isn’t a change in circumstances, but a change in impact, outcomes. We’ll have God’s company *IN* the flood. The raging river won’t drown us. The fire, won’t burn us. I don’t know which of these best describes where you’re at right now—today—but the assurance from God is: I’ll walk this out with you, turning to good, what would otherwise bring harm. No. Not making the awful good—or God-ordained—but transforming it for good in, and to, you.
