Nathan:

Better is a dry morsel with quietness,

Than a house full of feasting with strife.

Solomon. Proverbs 17:1. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 16 of 30 Days of Wisdom. Solomon has a lot to say about conflict. Apparently, God’s interested in our life being one of peace. I don’t like dry, crusty bread—in fact, I recently threw away some bread sticks I made for this very reason. This talk about dry bread brings to mind the hardtack sailors used to eat during long voyages. It wasn’t much for taste, but it gave them nourishment. If what we’re pursuing in life is at the expense of relationships, leading to conflict and discontent, then we’d better pursue something else. In the end, what will really last aren’t the things we have or the status we’ve earned—but relationships we’ve built. Don’t sacrifice these in the pursuit of some grand vision.
