Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Solomon. Proverbs 27:6. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 29 of 30 Days of Wisdom. We often bristle at criticism. We defend ourselves when a friend calls us out—but we lap up praise like a thirsty critter, no matter who’s giving it. We get a rush from a gazillion likes to our social media post, but shut-down when a friend candidly berates us. And we miss out. The value of friends isn’t to have our own personal cheer-squad—or at least, it shouldn’t be. If all our friends do is cheer us on, they may actually be our enemies. A friend cares. Cares enough to risk breaking a friendship to save the friend. Next time you’re about to spit back at a friend when you’re scolded, suck it up. This friendly wound, may save your life.
