Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
Jesus. Matthew 5:16. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 13 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing. Fascinatingly, Jesus didn’t say, “Make your light shine” but “let” it shine. If the Light is inside, we glow with the radiant beauty of Jesus, no matter our circumstances. If it isn’t, all our trying won’t make any difference at all—and everybody watching can tell we’re just a fake. After all, it’s quite easy to tell if a candle’s lit or not. When our light is shining they see us. The good things we do—the way we relate to them, to each other, to our kids. The way we spend our money differently. The focus of our conversation. The passion of our lives. Our way of valuing people. And every time they see it, it brings glory to the source of each good deed: God.
