Nathan:

“Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.

Jesus. Matthew 5:17, 18. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 14 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing. Jesus was addressing two accusations he was facing from the religious ilk: that he had no use for the teachings of Moses or the prophets AND that he saw little value in the moral law. Jesus’ words set the record straight on both counts: both the law and the prophetic words were as enduring as the world itself. Those laws or teachings that were intended to reach their fulfillment in his life, such as the Passover or animal sacrifices, would indeed meet their true fulfillment, reaching their ultimate purpose. Other prophetic teachings spoke of enduring principles. The law of life expressed the moral fabric of God’s good universe. Both of these were brilliantly affirmed and honored by the beautiful, faithful life of Jesus, as he made a way for us to follow in his God-honoring footsteps.
