Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Jesus. Matthew 6:30. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 19 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, PT 2.
If God so faithfully—and magnificently—cares for the created world, a world you and I had no hand in making, won’t he look after me? You? There’s two reasons we have an issue with God’s provision. First, we just plain don’t trust that he’ll do it. Yeah, we give it lip-service—but rarely do we really, truly believe the naked word of Jesus. And we’re hurting because of it. We lose much in being wrapped up in surviving, in scraping our way to a better life, when we could truly be thriving! Second, we have our own agenda—and we worry that maybe God won’t work things out the way we want them. We have our eyes on some stuff we want: the job promotion, the larger house, the faster car, the bigger TV. If we really trust God to look after us, we might not get those things—and we’re afraid of what our life would be like without them. Unfortunately, when we get what we want, we come to discover that it’s not all we thought it would be. Because we are meant for more. More than just having stuff and looking good. SO. MUCH. MORE.
