So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Jesus. Matthew 6:28–29. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 18 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, PT 2.

Then Jesus turns his listener’s eyes to the beautiful flowers in the field. Those exquisite natural forms that continue to dazzle our senses—with smell, color, detail. We may alter flowers through genetic engineering or hybridization, but we have NEVER created a living flower. Not a single one. We have merely manipulated existing material—yet God has clothed the flowers with rich splendor. So why is it again that we’re so wrapped up with how we look—and what we’re going to put on next? God loves beautiful things. God loves to provide ALL of creation with beautiful things. Our attitude shouldn’t be: how am I going to meet the bills, keep food on the table or replace my worn-out jeans. Rather, we should be asking, God, how are you going to show up in my life? How are you providing for me? How do I receive what you’re already doing—and join you? No, we don’t quit work and sit at home waiting for our clothes to show up—but we DO change how we look at life. We see God providing for us, rather than looking after ourselves.
