Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14 Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Jesus. Matthew 7:13–14. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 30 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, PT 2.
Narrow, because it leaves no room for self-interest. Narrow because it means the service of others over the service of self. Narrow because it involves the abandonment of selfish ambition—and shifts its focus to lifting others up. Narrow, because it excludes all other gods and is passionately in love with the true God. Difficult, because denying self for others is painful. Difficult because abandoning personal comfort in favor of comforting others is inconvenient. Difficult because letting go of my ambition for advancement and working to lift others up is sometimes met with loss, failure, indifference. The wide and easy road is just so because it accommodates our self-interest and necessitates no difficult changes or sacrifice. It’s the road most easily followed—until we fall in love with Jesus. Then the narrow, difficult road is full of rich delight.
