Again, Jesus is just stating a simple fact: if we spend our lives trying to make a name for ourselves, we are literally chasing fumes and shimmering illusions. We are grasping for something that gets smaller and smaller with every grasp—until it fades away, leaving us empty. However, when we abandon ourselves to discover the wonder and joy of being filled with the life of Jesus and poured out in blessing, we discover a larger, more beautiful life than we could ever have dreamed of. Ever. No matter our wildest dreams. The Jesus way is more. The self way is only an illusion—and a rapidly fading one at best.
