Matthew 10:16 (NKJV): Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.

Jesus. Matthew: 10:16

What a stunning twist—sheep, set loose among wolves. And for battle strategy—behave wisely, like a crafty serpent, yet be as harmless as a dove. He did not call the sheep back to safety nor order them to craft sheep-driven battle tanks or pile up defensive fortifications. No, they were to go out. Among wolves. They were to risk. To be exposed. Yet wise. In the middle of the fight they were still to use heaven’s weapons. To win by love. To wield the grace of kindness, not the sword. Have we forgotten our mandate? Have we forgotten that the battle is not won by fighting with the weapons of the enemy? Have we sold our wisdom for swords and our gentle spirit for ferocious opinions? Who are we? Still sheep? Or have we joined the wolves? Have we sold our kingdom-mission for a defensive fortress; political slogans; personal agendas or corporate success? Have we stopped going out with wisdom and grace and started protecting an empty castle?
