By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
John. 1 John 3:16. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 5 of 30 Days to a Better Marriage.
Lay down our lives. Yes, for our spouses. Marriage isn’t about accomplishing my dreams—its about pouring my life into the betterment of another. This doesn’t mean I can’t have dreams or pursue big ideas—but it does mean I look at everything through the eyes of “what’s best for us?” I take time to care for my spouse. I find out how my life and decisions can best enhance their life and experience—our life and experience. Is there an area of your marriage right now that would be made better if you put your own ambitions or personal opinions aside and leaned into your spouse? Could be a plan, a trip, an activity, even an idea that’s tripping you up. The two of you will be better off if you make the first move of sacrifice—and you never know, you might discover the returns are bigger than you’d ever dreamed.
