Jesus. John 15:4, 5. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 4 of 30 Days to a Better Marriage.

“Without Me you can do nothing.” A disconnected life, is a withered life. If you’re not daily connected to the source of Love, of life—you’re dying, and the pain and hurt of your dying will impact everybody around you. Spiritual self-care matters. Make sure you’re connected to the power-supply, before you do anything else. While I’m thinking about self-care, let’s not forget that a good marriage requires good self-care, period. That means, after making sure you’re in a growing place with God, you tend to other areas in your life, too. Take care of your health—if you’re worn out or sick from poor self-care, you become a burden to your spouse, rather than a blessing. What about psychological self-care? We’ve all got psychological hurt—unresolved pain from past experiences. This unaddressed pain does affect us, no matter how we pretend it doesn’t. Own responsibility for your own healing and take the necessary steps. Your spouse will be blessed. Manage your mind by cultivating and strengthening it. Manage your stress-load wisely. Bottom line: look after yourself, so you are in the best shape possible to care lavishly for your spouse.
