The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise
wisdom and instruction.”
Solomon. Proverbs 1:7. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is day 4 of ANOTHER 30 Days of
Wisdom. Knowledge has a ground floor. A foundation. Bedrock. That foundation is more than just a belief in a divine being. First, it’s understanding that divine being to be the God that Scripture describes. Second, it’s bowing in humble, delighted, awe-filled worship before him. This twin component of believing the truth about God and responding in wonder and awe, form the bedrock of knowledge by aligning our minds with its author. Simply put, if I know and admire the designer of gizmo x, I’m far more likely to learn the intricacies of the gizmo, than if I have any other kind of relationship with her. In the writer’s mind, our understanding of, and attitude toward, God predisposes us to gaining valuable knowledge or biases us against it.
Thus the pursuit of any human knowledge—ANY human knowledge—is best when nestled within a God-oriented, worship-defined paradigm. A worldview that constantly circles back toward God with wonder, awe and delight. Let me shoot it straight: if you want to really know stuff—like any kind of stuff that matters—start by discovering the wonder and delight of God.
