Matthew. Matthew 1:5-10. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 4 of 30 Days in the Gospels. Reflect on the profound implications of Jesus ancestry: Rahab(non-Jew who made her living in a pagan city selling her body for an income); Solomon(product of an affair that was covered up by murder); Ahaz(one of the nation of Judah’s wicked kings); Manasseh(Judean king best known for killing Isaiah the prophet and leading Israel in a passionate pursuit of wickedness for nearly all of his 55 year reign). These names are included in the ancestral list for a specific purpose: to inspire us with hope—he is brother to all of us, no matter our backstory; to illuminate the human tragedy into which our Redeemer threw himself; to highlight the struggle he embraced, including our broken genetics, SO THAT he might heal and restore fallen people like you and me.
