30 Days of Psalms, pt 1. Protected.

I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;

For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

The Psalmist. Psalm 4:8. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 11 of 30 Days of Psalms. We can spend a fortune securing our personal safety. It may be investing in security enhancements to our home, higher safety standards in the work place, or a bank carrying solid FDIC insurance. I certainly would not advocate against any of these measures, but to assume that we are secure because we have taken them is pure, undiluted fantasy. Accidents still happen in the workplace. Homes are still vandalized. Securely deposited funds are still vulnerable to loss. As in the Psalmists day, so in ours—God, alone, causes us to dwell in safety. Take proper precautions for sure, but don’t swallow the illusion of human-centered security. We can lie down in peace, only because God surrounds us with his care.
