Matthew 7:24–25 (NKJV): “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
Jesus. Matthew 7:24, 25. Hi, it’s Nathan, and this is Day 6 of 30 Days on the Mount of Blessing, pt 3–and other sayings of Jesus.
It’s a timeless story—among the most well-remembered of Jesus’ many. A story that’s inspired at least one favorite children’s song, with great hand motions to boot. But it has a deep lesson. To be well-grounded—to have a stable, solid footing—we need only sink our lives down into the words—and person—of Jesus. And this is an incredible assurance. You know, we get all caught up in human ideas and figuring out how to have a stable, well-rounded life, but it turns out we’re just toying with sand-castles; compared to the enduring nature of the enduring foundation of God’s kingdom: other-centered love. No other way of life can survive the ravages of time. The are no alternatives—with God’s love in our hearts, our life is anchored, stable. Enduring.
